Subject: Checking in...

Hi Andi,

I just want to let you know that we are still following your program and still cooking for the dogs. Things are going very well and we’re getting down our own system of mass producing it well. J I’m still taking pictures every week, but haven’t had a chance to process them. Marshall did have a bit of a health crisis, but we know it took a long time for the toxins to build up in his system and they don’t disappear overnight. His dermatologist has decided he has a thyroid problem, but I know it was the food because Que was suffering hair loss, too, after being on the Purina HA for so long and he’s never had health problems. I don’t think we’ll be seeing him again. Marshall’s regular vet is applauding us for cooking for them and she is very supportive. I’ve asked her to check his thyroid again and it went up half a point in 1 week and that is very good. She wants to keep an eye on it before she recommends any medication.

Anyway, we’re a little overwhelmed. On top of all our concerns with his health, we’re looking at relocating so there is a lot going on right now, but we’re very committed to cooking for them.

Elvira

Hi Andi,

I’m so glad to hear from you! I’ve thought of you often in the past couple of months, but never seem to have the chance to sit down and write. I just got back from California and am still settling back into our routine.

I’m still cooking for Marshall and Que. Both dogs have all of their fur back and it is soft. The boys are hardly shedding at all. Marshall is enormously improved, but still suffering from ear infections and we still struggle with his neck area. However, his thyroid has totally bounced back and went from a zero (almost dead) to a five (perfect score) and he hasn’t needed steroids since we started your program and that is where we really feel successful. He is absolutely a new dog. The most amazing part is that this has always been the worst time of year for him with everything blooming and the pollen going crazy. He isn’t bright red, he isn’t keeping us up at night scratching, in fact he’s barely scratching at all. I would never have believed it if I didn’t look him in the face every day and see for myself. In the winter, his neck was actually healed over and growing fur. He’s re-opened it since Spring started, but even that is much, much better than before.

Everyone else notices a difference in him, too and so I’ve recommended your book whenever anyone asks me why he suddenly looks so good. We’re very committed to continuing cooking for him. The only time he’s even had Halo’s Spot’s Stew is when I was in California and that was only for 2 days and we had a dog sitter. Otherwise, neither dog has missed a home cooked meal since we started. We have a full sized freezer and have been freezing food in containers the same size as their serving size so it is very easy to keep on track.

Attached is a picture of his neck right before he re-opened it.

Thanks for checking in on us and thanks for a healthy boy,

Elvira

Hi Elvira,

Thanks for taking the time to update me on Marshall and Que. What a wonderful and dedicated Mom you are. Not everyone would be taking the time and energy to accomplish all that you're doing. Perfect score on the thyroid is fantastic. What kind of a collar are you using on him, and is he getting any kind of product for fleas? (I'm trying to figure out why the neck is still an issue).

Keep me posted. You are amazing.

Wishing you all great health always,

Andi

Hi Andi,

He doesn’t use a collar inside or in the yard so only when we go for his walk. He has a 100% cotton collar when he goes out. Both dogs are on Sentinel for fleas, heartworm, etc. Marshall is very sensitive to his environment and the foods he eats. I’ve found that he reacts to beef and lamb, but not poultry. He also doesn’t do well with yogurt and dairy, so I have to keep his Spot’s Stew recipe very consistent. No wild rice, but barley and millet are a great combo for him. Every possible plant is in bloom around here and you can see the pollen in the air. The cat goes and rolls in it then rubs Marsh, giving him a double dose of cat and pollen. His neck did heal over and had some fresh new baby skin with even a little bit of fur, but that was in the winter which is usually his best season. I know when I started your program, Marshie was almost dead. I know he was and I kept telling the dermatologist the food is killing him. His regular vet was very concerned for him. I don’t see the dermatologist anymore and his regular vet is very supportive and amazed at his recovery. Initially, when we tested his thyroid and came up with a zero, (and we did the big Michigan State Thyroid Panel) we had just started your program and my vet was scared for him. I told her I knew it was the food since Que lost his hair, too and to just give me two more weeks before we put him on thyroid medication. She agreed and when we came back and re-tested, he was a five. I know we saved his life. She said, “Well, there’s your scientific proof that what you’re doing is working. It’s amazing and it just never happens!” He’s eleven and now people think he’s four.

I don’t want you to feel discouraged about his neck. We’re still working diligently on him and his health and we’ll resolve this. His quality of life is so improved and I think the skin is so new and so soft that it really doesn’t take much to reopen it. I think it speaks to the severity of what we were dealing with before we started your program and that it will just take some time to work out.

Elvira
