Gour-mutt Treats

Occasionally, the features department gets a request to taste-test new products. Every once in a while, we're asked to recruit our pets.
Andi Brown, director of Halo, Purely for Pets, recently asked assistance from our four-legged friends.
Her Florida-based company makes pure, chemical free products — people-quality foods, she says — and she offered to send us "everything you need to throw a gour-mutt feast for your pet and a few of his pals."
"Great nutrition quickly boosts the immune system to develop disease resistance, energize the body and heal from within," she said. "This is real food, as opposed to pet by-products, which we make with USDA ingredients in our strictly regulated USDA kitchen, not a pet food processing plant."
Lilybelle, Beijing and Buddy first feasted on Spot's Stew for Dogs (a cat version is available, too), which contains free-range chicken in a broth with zucchini, squash, carrots, green beans, peas and garlic powder. For dessert, they shared a handful of Liv-A-Littles freeze-dried chicken treats.
Both were winners. All three dogs barked for more, whining over their empty bowls.
Halo products, which include holistic herbal grooming aids, are primarily available at natural food stores. Locally, find them at Naples Dog Center, For Goodness Sake and SunSplash Natural Foods Market.
